If you are looking to close a bank account the requirements are not jaw breaking as opening an account. All you need is a letter of account closure, return remaining check leaves for corporate account holders where applicable.

How to close GTBank account

Here’s the real deal, in few steps

Step one:  Visit the nearest GTBank to your location, on arrival, walk straight to the customer service unit and tell the service executive that you want to close your account.

Note: They’ll usually advise against closing your account, however, insist on getting it closed.

Step two: You will be required to write account closure letter, this is to put the bank on a safe side in case something comes up on the contrary in the future.

Step three: You will have to complete account closure form, in the closure form you’ll have a column to state in clear terms why you want to close your account, be specific and straight to the point.

Remember to capture your account name, account number, account type where appropriate and append your signature where required.    

Step four: Having completed the form, hand it over to the customer service officer as well as any other material that may be required of you.

Why your bank account may not closed yet

There are a few reasons you may not be able to close your bank account until certain issues are resolved.

 Example

If your account is under investigation by relevant authorities like the EFCC, ICPC, or the court for certain presume offense which could be financially or otherwise, such account may not be closed.

The court as well as has the right to place a clause on any account deemed necessary with recourse to a pending case.

If you were offered overdraft by the bank and you are yet to settle the facility, such account may not be closed until the overdraft is settled in full term.

If you suspect that your account has been compromised simply dial *737*51*74# using any mobile number in Nigeria to lock your account.

Kindly note that you’ll be required to provide the phone number registered to your account and your 737 PIN.

How to remove restriction on my GTBank account

Having blocked/restrict your account from unauthorized user, to unlock your account you will need to call GTConnect or visit any GTBank branch near you.

You cannot carry out this task online at the moment, kindly visit the nearest GTBank office.

How to block GTBank account from another phone number

If you suspect that your account has been compromised simply dial *737*51*74# using any mobile number in Nigeria to lock your account.

Kindly note that you’ll be required to provide the phone number registered to your account and your 737 PIN.
